GEORGIE STRAUSS

Artist - Beyond Photography Collective

Georgie Strauss was born in London, and studied art throughout school, where she was taught the traditional elements of analogue photography, before moving to Leeds to study Fine Art at university. Previously Georgie worked mostly in monochromatic film, but is currently expanding her work to include colour, videography and digital aspects. Her themes are mainly centred around the misconceptions and representations of “Generation Z”, including the attitudes and views of this generation, too. Georgie is interested in the new age of technology, the new sexual revolution and the changing of tradition. Georgie presents these themes by focussing on people; working largely as a portrait photographer, she often presents appearances next to her subject’s views, whether it be political or seemingly unimportant information, to build a connection between subject and viewer. Georgie has taken influence from the likes of Bruce Gilden, Alex Webb, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Richard Avedon.

Georgie on Beyond Photography: Photography is even more than a photograph- using light filters, applications, darkroom techniques etc etc, it is possible to change a photograph. Therefore, photography enables us to warp, contort, and manipulate a pure record of life. Photography can change the natural, something said to be impossible, and forces people to question what they think they are so sure of.
